Welcome to the final lesson, Lesson #6, of the SciComm Society “Making An Impact” email course!

In the past few weeks, you’ve learned so many valuable skills to break out of the science bubble and reach people with your SciComm. You helped your audience understand basic scientific concepts, taught them valuable knowledge, and showed them why your research matters.

Well done on this!

Now, we’ve got one last lesson that will help you expand your reach even further and propel you forward in your SciComm journey.

Lesson # 6: Collaborate with other science communicators

Working with others who care about teaching science will strengthen your SciComm efforts. Having two people working together with complementary skills can get the job done faster and improve its quality. Also, you get exposure to your collaborator’s audience.

Personally, we (Justine and Sarah) have loved working together and highly recommend SciComm collaborations. It’s just so much more fun doing these creative projects with someone else, brainstorming their execution, and sharing the ups and downs.

Find a collaborator

Think about who you’d like to collaborate with, and send them a message or email to ask them! Make sure you explain how collaborating might look while letting them know you’re also open to their ideas. If you approach them without anything in mind, it’s harder for them to imagine what working together with you might be like.

After you’ve connected with your new collaborator, you can share this email course with them (here’s the link to the course). They might also be interested in learning how to make a bigger impact with their research!

Create your social media post

This last post might take the longest since you’re involving another person, and you might need to wait for their input. But trust us, it will be worth it and fun! When sharing the new post, make sure you both use the hashtag #mySCSimpact.

Let us know how it goes! We’re so excited to see you strike up amazing collaborations. Send us the link to your post!
